Congratulations, Carney!

Carney Flinn, a former DiSH RA, will be attending medical school this Fall at Virginia Tech!

Here is what she had to say: “I am super excited to begin this part of my education as well as move to another part of the country. I really liked Virginia Tech’s program because they integrate research into their medical school curriculum. The DiSH lab gave me my first experience with research and with working with human participants which will serve me in medical school. I hope to use this in the next four years!”

Dr. T featured on The Full Bloom Project!

This week Dr. T was featured on the @fullbloomproject podcast! The Full Bloom Project was founded by two psychotherapists to provide research-informed resources for parents who want to promote self-esteem and positive body image in their children at all ages. Congratulations, Ben!

A few weeks ago, DiSH Grad student Ben received the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) Psychological Science Research Grant (PSRG)!

Here is what Ben had to say about it: “The title of the grant was, “What did I eat for lunch? Understanding Determinants of Meal Memories.” APAGS is a part of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the award is given each year to about 10-15 students across all disciplines in psychology and neuroscience. The award is $1,000 for research based expenses.”

Dr. T featured in Daily Bruin!

In a new Daily Bruin Dr. T discusses how popular, goal driven diets may lead to adverse health effects. Dr. T states: “If you’re trying to get healthy, instead of going on a fad diet like juice cleanses or keto, a faster and more direct path to health would be adding in more fruits and veggies, getting better sleep, exercising more and getting a handle on stress.” Check out the full article here.

A few weeks ago, DiSH Grad student Daniel received the Early Graduate Research Award and the Mamie Phipps Clark Diversity Research Grant!

Here is what Daniel had to say: “The Early Graduate Student Researcher Award from the APA recognizes three graduate students each year who have shown a high level of independence in conducting outstanding research with scientific and practical significance before their dissertation. The Mamie Phipps Clark Diversity Research Grant from Psi Chi to support my research on the intersections of race and vegetarianism. This grant program supports research projects on diverse populations and issues.”

Again, congrats Daniel on this achievement!

Dr. T at Columbia University!

A few weeks ago, Dr. T visited Columbia University to give a talk called: “Weight Stigma, Stress and Obesity” for the Columbia University Seminar on Appetitive Behavior. Dr. T got a chance to connect with Sharon Akabas, who is the director of the Masters in Human Nutrition program that Keenan Fine, DiSH Lab alum, is currently in.
